Our coaches guide

This guide has been written for our coaches to keep everyone as safe as possible.

We want you to be safe. You will need to follow these rules.

This means that training will be different.


Before coming to training you must:

1 – complete a PCR home test on the morning of the training session

2 – read the risk assessment


Before training

Before coming to training, you will need to make sure that you do not have COVID-19 symptoms.

These are:

  • A high temperature (above 37.8°C)
  • A new continuous cough.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • A sore throat.
  • Loss of or change in normal sense of taste or smell.
  • Feeling generally unwell.

You must not come to training if you have been contacted by the NHS Test and Trace service or if you live with someone who has symptoms.

You must confirm that you coming to training at least 24 hours before the training session. You must do this on the coaches WhatsApp group.

You should read and understand:

You must arrive before your team’s allocated time slot to make sure your training area is set up and secure. This will take you approximately 20 minutes.

All the players for your team must arrive in their allocated 15 minute time slot. If they do not, they will not be able to train.

All players must sign in with Lorraine when they arrive.

You must bring your own:

  • water bottle
  • hand sanitiser
  • sanitising materials for equipment

These must not be shared with anyone else.

You must make sure that you bring your ‘Managers Bag’ and equipment, including sanitising equipment.

You must check who is registered to train on the morning of the training session. All players must book their training the day before.


When you arrive

You must sanitise your hands when you arrive.

You must register with Lorraine when you arrive.

You must set up your training area before any players arrive. This will take you approximately 20 minutes.

You must sanitise all equipment before training starts.

You must keep to social distancing from other players, their families and the coaches.

You will need to start your training session with a COVID-19 briefing for all the players to remind them of the rules.

You will need to keep to social distancing.


During training

During training, players should not touch the ball with their hands (unless they are the goalkeeper).

If a player touches the ball with their hands (other than the goalkeeper), the ball must be sanitised before being used again.

If the ball goes out of play, this must be retrieved by a player or a coach using their feet.

If you have to use your hands, you will need to wipe the ball before it can be used.

You must follow the FA’s COVID-19 First Aid guidelines for any injuries and first aid that is needed.

Equipment must not be shared by any players, such as bibs, goalkeeper gloves, shin pads, etc.

Players from the same household can share equipment.

Spectators must not go on the pitch or touch any of the equipment.

Players must not move between different team training areas.

If a player leaves the training field, they will not be allowed to continue training that day.

Players should refrain from spitting.


At the end of training

You must sanitise all equipment at the end of training.

You must wash all used bibs in a washing machine after training.

You must securely store the equipment to make sure it is not touched by anyone else.
